Established in 2010, the Structural Engineers Foundation of Washington has a mission to advance the profession of structural engineering through scholarships, education, research, and outreach.
SCHOLARSHIPS: SEFW funds the Structural Engineers Association of Washington (SEAW) Scholarship Program, providing awards to Washington residents in their structural engineering studies, with more than 50 scholarships granted since 1985. SEFW also funds other students seeking learning opportunities related to structural engineering.
EDUCATION: SEFW offers educational opportunities to inform professionals and students, as well as the general public about structural engineering. Educational events and initiatives include the Fall Forum lecture series, creation of educational documents about careers in engineering, and support for related productions such as the documentary "Structural Engineers of the 1962 Seattle's World Fair."
RESEARCH: SEFW provides grants for research initiatives, collects funding for the SEAW Disaster Preparedness Response program, and is formulating a grant program for graduate student research projects at Washington universities. OUTREACH: SEFW supports community STEM programs developed by schools and organizations that promote structural engineering. This has included funding field trips for students, popsicle-stick bridge-building competitions, mentoring opportunities, and more.
